New Election Commission appears in court today! Petition on election postponement will be heard on the 24th. I Sri Lanka Latest News

The petition filed by the National People’s Power against the postponement of the local government elections was considered today (14). The National People’s Force has filed this fundamental rights petition against the unfair and undemocratic postponement of the local government election scheduled for March 9. Today it was called before a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court. Sri Lanka Latest News

It is said that the officers of the new Election Commission appeared before the Supreme Court today as ordered by the Supreme Court on the 27th of last month.

As all the technical matters related to the case have been completed, it has been decided to call the petition again on the 24th.

Commenting on this, lawyer Sunil Watagala states that he is fully confident that the petition will be heard as it is a case to protect the basic rights of the people of the country and the court has accepted that the relevant technical matters have been completed.

Advocate Nigel Hatch and Advocate Sunil Watagala appear in this case on behalf of National People’s Party Member of Parliament Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and other petitioners.
