New Bribery Commission Appointed I Sri Lanka Latest News

With effect from 1st January 2024, the Bribery Commission is to undergo significant changes in its leadership. Eminent Justice Neil Iddawala has been appointed as the Chairman, alongside two other distinguished members, Chethiya  Gunesekara P.C. and R.B. Rajapakse, a seasoned banker.

Justice Iddawala, an eminent jurist, brings a wealth of experience to his role as the Chair of the Bribery Commission. A distinguished all-round sportsman and academic; he is an alumnus of Maliyadeva College Kurunegala. His notable achievements include numerous landmark judgments in the Court of Appeal, showcasing his exceptional legal acumen. Justice Iddawala’s academic journey includes being an alumnus of the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, and the prestigious Harvard Kennedy School in the USA. This academic foundation, coupled with his practical experience, positions him as a formidable leader for the Bribery Commission.

The appointment of Chethiya Gunesekara P.C. and R.B. Rajapakse as members of the Bribery Commission further adds to the commission’s strength. Their expertise and diverse backgrounds will undoubtedly contribute to the commission’s mission of upholding integrity and combating corruption.

These appointments were made by President Ranil Wickramasinghe, following recommendations by the Constitutional Council. The president’s commitment to selecting individuals of high calibre and integrity ensures that the Bribery Commission will continue to serve the nation effectively.

The Bribery Commission, under the leadership of Justice Neil Iddawala and the guidance of members Chethiya Gunesekara P.C. and R.B. Rajapakse, is poised to make significant strides in promoting transparency, accountability, and combating corruption within our society.
