President Ranil Wickramasinghe emphasized that he will never do away with the right to express opinions, having removed the criminal defamation law, which has not been done in any country in the region.

The President pointed out that the proposed Electronic Broadcasting Regulatory Commission Act only provides an opportunity for the aggrieved party to seek relief if any party is prejudiced by an electronic medium.

Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe said that such a method is used to deal with electronic media in every country of the world and in implementing it in Sri Lanka, he has instructed to include the same guidelines for electronic media in the United Kingdom.

President Ranil Wickramasinghe stated this while inaugurating the program of issuing foreign passports through the online system at the Homagama Divisional Secretariat premises.
