The National People’s Power (NPP) group has reportedly faced defeat in the Beruwala Various Services Cooperative Society election.
According to reports, the NPP managed to secure only 32 member positions in the election. In contrast, a joint team, which included members from other opposition parties such as the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, won 68 member positions.
This defeat follows a series of similar outcomes for the NPP in recent weeks, as they have also lost elections in Kelaniya, Homagama, Angunakolapelessa, and Welivitiya Divithura cooperative societies.
Despite an aggressive campaign effort, including poster campaigns, pamphlet distribution, and door-to-door canvassing akin to strategies used in national elections, the NPP has struggled to achieve victory in these cooperative society elections.
