The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted Ms. Kshenuka Seneviratne (Former Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Sri Lankan High Commissioner designated to India recently, at the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka. The objective of this meeting was to explore and discuss the enhancement of bilateral trade and investment opportunities between Sri Lanka and India.
National Chamber President, Mr. Deepal Nelson with his opening remarks, welcomed the High Commissioner and emphasized the importance of her presence at the National Chamber to meet the leaders of business community. This session was attended by the office bearers of the National Chamber and several leaders from the business community.
Ms. Seneviratne provided a comprehensive overview of the swiftly changing business landscape in India and emphasized about the immense potential for Sri Lankan business community to engage in exports to the Indian markets. Further, explained that India being our closest and biggest market, there is ample opportunity for Sri Lankan business entities not only to engage in exports but also to promote tourism targeted at the Indians. This event served as a platform for the business community to express and discuss their challenges in carrying out the export/import activities with Ms. Seneviratne and get her attention towards fostering closer economic ties and minimising barriers to collaboration between the two nations.
The business community representatives expressed their views and expectations on the business expansion plans in India and concluded a fruitful discussion with Ms. Kshenuka Seneviratne, and she entrusted to extend her fullest support in her capacity as the Sri Lankan High Commissioner in India.
