National Audit Report Reveals Unused Millions in Hospital Donation Funds
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The latest report issued by the National Audit Office has revealed that Rs. 40 million in the donation account for the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital remained unutilized for any productive purpose during 2022 and 2023.

Additionally, the report highlights that nearly Rs. 15 million received as donations to the National Health Development Fund was not utilized to fulfill the objectives of the fund.

These donations were reportedly received for four different projects between 1998 and 2023.

The report further states that over Rs. 10 million, donated by a benefactor for the purchase of surgical supplies for the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Colombo, was not used for the intended purpose.

Moreover, the audit discloses that while over Rs. 620 million was raised for the construction of a ten-storey building and the purchase of equipment for the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital under the Little Heart Project, only Rs. 80 million was spent from that fund in 2023.

This information is detailed in the National Audit Office’s audit report on the National Health Development Fund.
