Namal Rajapaksa Says SLPP Ready to Cooperate with All Investigations
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa stated that the party believes the best way to prove their innocence is to fully cooperate with ongoing investigations. “We believe that the best way to prove our innocence is to cooperate with the investigation, so we will come whenever we are asked to come,” he said.

He made these remarks today (2026.05.11) at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna party headquarters on Nelum Mawatha, while responding to journalists’ questions regarding whether former President Mahinda Rajapaksa would appear before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption tomorrow.

Namal Rajapaksa further stated:

“We will go whenever we are asked to come. The government needs to understand that this process cannot be carried out by pressuring and intimidating people. Therefore, there must be a proper investigation. We believe that the best way to prove our innocence is to support the investigation. However, if there is an agenda to pressure investigations and force statements through intimidation, that will not be fair. In the end, the people of this country will have to bear the consequences, because they are doing this to mislead the public.

The opposition, however, is calling for investigations because the government is attempting to cover up many matters. We saw that Rs. 80 million was spent in connection with a death at the Ministry of Finance, which was immediately labeled as a suicide and covered up. We are trying to bring this into a broader public discussion, but there must be a fair investigation into all these matters.

We will appear whenever we are required to do so. There is no issue with that, and there is no reason for misinformation. However, the current government is attempting to divert attention by avoiding several issues. Such evasions will not succeed.”
