Mr. Naleen Bandara, Member of Parliament, questioned today (20) in the Parliament what is the government’s position regarding the chairmanship of the COPE Committee.

He said the appointment undermines the COPE committee.

He said that about 10 MPs have resigned from the COPE Committee and if the Chairman of the COPE Committee is not removed, he may have to go on a hunger strike.

Mr. Rohitha Abeygunawardena was recently appointed as the chairman of the COP committee and various parties are protesting against that appointment.
