Multiple Government Schemes Including Dengue Prevention and Senior Citizen Loans Begin Today in Sri Lanka

A series of special initiatives are set to be implemented starting today (01).

Among them is the launch of Dengue Prevention Week, which commences today as part of national health efforts.

In parallel, the Ministry of Financial Planning and Economic Development has announced that the special interest loan scheme for senior citizens, proposed under the 2025 Budget, will also come into effect today.

This scheme, approved by the Cabinet, is open to individuals aged 60 and above. Eligible participants may open fixed deposits under this initiative from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, with each deposit requiring a fixed term of 12 months. Furthermore, the maximum deposit amount per individual is capped at Rs. 1 million.

In addition, the Parate Execution Law (Parata Law) is scheduled to come into force starting today.

Fuel consumers will also experience a price revision, as increased fuel prices are set to be implemented from today.
