The Magistrate states that he wrote the letter of resignation on September 23rd and did not send it to the Secretary of the Judicial Service Commission but waited to see if something would happen for his own safety, but since nothing happened, he sent the letter to the Judicial Service Commission.
T. Saravanaraja has mentioned that this situation has arisen after the judgments given regarding several controversial cases in Mullaitivu district.
The proceedings related to two incidents which received much attention in the recent period were pending before the Mullaitivu Magistrate’s Court.

The preliminary investigations related to the discovery of human bones in the Kokkuthuduwai area were also conducted in front of Mr. Justice Saravanaraja.
Justice Minister Wijedasa Rapaksha said in a statement to the media that he has not yet received such a letter from the Ministry of Justice, which is said to have been sent by Magistrate Mulathivu, and that he is looking into it.
