Parliament member Gamini Lokuge and a person of Walav descent from Akurassa area have come forward to claim the pair of ivory taken into police custody with a suspect in Matara – Pitabeddara area.

It was taken into police custody along with a suspect on the 12th when he went to sell the ivory pair for 50 lakh rupees.

Later, after it was spread through the media, the member of Parliament Gamini Lokuge and a person of Walawa generation from Akurassa area came to the Panadura Walana anti-corruption unit and claimed the pair of ivory.

Parliamentarian Gamini Lokuge had declared to the police that this was the pair of tusks that were missing when his house was attacked and set on fire during the violence that broke out in the country on May 9 last year.

He told the police that the pair of ivory was given to him by a relative who had gone abroad a few years ago.

However, the Panadura-Walana anti-corruption unit stated that a person related to the Akurassa-Deegala  walawa  also claimed the pair of ivory and will report the matter to the Morawaka Magistrate’s Court today.
