Minister Ananda Wijepala received a total of Rs. 1,285,167 during his tenure as Director of the Anti-Corruption Committee Secretariat under the previous Yahapalana government, according to MP Chanaka Madugoda.
The revelation was made during a parliamentary session held yesterday (20), where MP Madugoda responded to concerns raised during a debate the day before (19) between MP Namal Rajapaksa and Minister Wijepala.
Recounting the exchange, MP Madugoda pointed out that Minister Wijepala had previously stated he did not receive any salary or allowances while serving as the Director of the Secretariat. However, MP Madugoda contradicted this claim by presenting a document confirming that a payment of Rs. 1,285,167 had in fact been made to the Minister during his tenure.
The MP also noted that during the debate, Minister Wijepala accused MP Namal Rajapaksa of lying under the cover of parliamentary privilege. In response, MP Madugoda emphasized that the opposition would not make baseless accusations and that their criticism of the government is rooted in facts and responsibility.
