Puttalam District Member of Parliament Ali Sabri Rahim, who has open warrants issued by the Kalpitiya Tourism Magistrate’s Court, participated as a special guest in a ceremony at Kalpitiya Al Aksha National School yesterday (16).
In Kalpitiya, the MP was seen being escorted to the festival grounds by a police officer.
Rahim has avoided court three times about a case assigned to the Puttalam Magistrate’s Court by a non-governmental organization in Kalpitiya. Additional District Judge and Magistrate Mrs Iona Wimalaratne has ordered the Kalpitiya Police to arrest the MP and produce him before the court due to his failure to appear, either in person or through a lawyer.
When asked about the MP’s public behaviour despite the open warrants, Kalpitiya Police Station Commander Inspector Wasantha Siri Lal Edirisinghe stated that the MP has not yet appeared in court but is expected to do so soon.
The Governor of North West Province, Mr. Ahmed Nasir, also attended the ceremony.
