An incident where a child was brutally beaten and tortured for 4 years was reported from Kelaniya Dippitigama area.

During the police investigations, it was revealed that the owners of the house where the child grew up had beaten and molested the child.

Due to the child’s mother’s remarriage, the mother decided to hand over the child to a neighboring house due to her husband’s dislike for the child.

That was 4 years ago.

Since then, this child, who lived in a neighboring house in Dippitigama area of Kelaniya, was beaten by the woman of that house, her husband and daughter.

Also, this child has to do chores at home, even hampering his education.

The school teachers had noticed a change in the behavior of this child who had lived such a miserable life and had questioned him about it.

There, the teachers have come to know that the child has been constantly attacked and tortured.

This 15-year-old child, who is studying at St. Francis Maha Vidyalaya, Dalugama, Kelaniya, shed tears and narrated the unpleasant events he faced.

The child had also said, “Don’t worry, take a bottle of poison

Although the child’s mother was brought to the school and informed about this, she did not pay any attention to it and later the teachers also worked to inform the concerned woman.

It was reported that the concerned woman had also threatened the teachers.

Then the teachers informed the Peliyagoda Police and the officers of the Children’s and Women’s Bureau came and took the child to the police yesterday.

During the interrogation, it was further revealed that the child had been beaten like this for a long time.

The woman of the house where the child lived also came to the Peliyagoda Police and the police questioned her as well.

At present, the child has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital under police protection and is scheduled to undergo a medical examination.

Ms. Tamara Dushanthi de Silva, Sub-Inspector of Peliyagoda Women and Children’s Bureau, who is investigating the incident, said that after receiving the medical report, legal action will be taken against the residents and his mother. –
