According to reports, the opposition is sceptical that the government has suddenly declared next Monday (26) a public holiday in order to halt the publication of the gazette announcement related to the holding of local government elections.
As previously stated, the Independent Election Commission is preparing to publish a gazette notice regarding the upcoming local government election on Monday.
In addition, the commission took steps today to publish a gazette notice announcing the appointment of electoral officers.
However, opposition members have stated that there has been much speculation as to whether the declaration of Monday as a public holiday was intended to delay the issuance of the election gazette.
