A minor earth tremor of 2.4 magnitudes on the Richter scale was recorded by the Seismic Monitoring Center at the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) last night.
They said the minor earthquake was reported from Buttala at a depth of 1km.
According to the Seismic Monitoring Center, the tremor occurred 154 km from Colombo.
The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau said that the earthquake occurred yesterday (25) at 11.20 pm with a magnitude of 2.4.
All four seismometers operating in this country have recorded the earthquake that occurred in an area about one kilometre deep inside the earth.
However, it has not been reported whether there has been any damage.
