Public Security Minister Tiran Alas says that a special program has been implemented to arrest 30 smugglers who were involved in drug trafficking and underworld activities in Sri Lanka while abroad and bring them back to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Latest News

The minister says that currently, the government has information about 29 underworld members in Dubai and one underworld member in France.

The Minister also says that discussions have already started with the countries concerned to bring those underworld members who are abroad to Sri Lanka.

Public Security Commissioner Tiran Alas said this while participating in the opening of the Kirindiwela Happy Family Educational and Trade Fair.

The Kiridiwela Happy Family Education Fair and Trade Fair started yesterday (25) with the centre of Kiridiwela Madhya Maha Vidyalaya and Kiridiwela Maha Vidyalaya under the chairmanship of Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga and Public Security Minister Tiran Alas, and it will continue until the 31st. It consists of more than 50 education and trade stalls from public, semi-public and private sectors.

Minister Tiran Alas further said:

Question- There is some thought that the “Justice” program will be stopped.?

Answer- We have never taken such a decision. Those who obstruct the justice program say so. Underworld and drug trafficking in the country will be completely stopped in the next six months. No matter who interferes, I will do the work.

Q. There are a lot of underworld members in Dubai. What action will be taken against them?

Answer- Most of the underworld members are in Dubai. In addition, the program to arrest members of the underworld in France and other countries continues. We have even obtained red warrants from the court to arrest them. We have received information about 29 underworld members currently in Dubai and one underworld member in France. Negotiations are going on with the relevant countries to bring them to this country. But with the legal conditions in those countries, some time is spent on those activities.

Question- Can you give a guarantee that the underworld and drug trafficking in the country will be completely eradicated in the next six months?

Answer- We cannot guarantee that it will be 100% removed. I do not think that there is such a situation in any country in the world but makes a big difference. As long as I am in this country, I will take the maximum possible measures against the underworld and drug trafficking. I can vouch for that.

Minister of State Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Members of Parliament Milan Jayathilaka, Sumit Udukumbura, Tissa Kuttiarachchi, Kumarasiri Ratnayake, Rajika Wickramasinghe, Manjula Dissanayake and Muditha Prasanti participated in this event.
