Minister Bimal Ratnayake, who is currently visiting China in connection with the recent Cabinet reshuffle, has toured a dragon fruit plantation in Guangxi Province.
Sharing details on his official Facebook page, the Minister stated:
“After arriving in China at the invitation of the Chinese Communist Party, I had the opportunity to visit Guangxi Province, which has made a remarkable contribution to poverty alleviation.
We visited the Guangxi Jinshu Agricultural Company, located in a major fruit-growing region of Guangxi Province. The company manages a cultivation area spanning 3.6 square kilometers. Within this agricultural zone, there are 10,907 households with a total population of approximately 42,675 residents who benefit from its operations.
Notably, the annual income of households engaged in dragon fruit cultivation has increased nearly threefold. It was highlighted to us that such agricultural initiatives have made a significant contribution to the province’s poverty reduction efforts.
We also discussed the technical methods adopted to enhance cultivation yields. Furthermore, it was explained that the government has introduced policies aimed at improving the living standards of individuals employed in these enterprises. The companies, in turn, operate in compliance with government regulations, ensuring profitability while working to uplift the livelihoods of their employees.”
