The Department of Meteorology issued its latest weather bulletin this morning (29), announcing that the prevailing rainy conditions are expected to significantly decrease from tomorrow (30). Sri Lanka Latest News

According to the Department, Cyclone Ditva is projected to move northwards and northwestwards, reaching the Tamil Nadu coast of India by November 30.

The Department further noted that, as of 11:30 p.m. yesterday (28), the system was located 70 km northwest of Trincomalee, near latitude 9.0°N and longitude 80.8°E.

The public has been advised to remain attentive to upcoming weather bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology.

Meanwhile, frequent showers or thundershowers are expected today in the Northern, North-Central, Central, and North-Western provinces, with some areas likely to experience heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm.

Occasional showers or thundershowers are also expected in the Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts, where moderately heavy rains exceeding 50 mm may occur in certain locations.

The rest of the island will experience occasional showers or thundershowers throughout the day.

The Department further warned that very strong winds of 60–70 kmph, with gusts reaching 80–90 kmph, may affect many parts of the country.

The Meteorology Department urges the public to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of accidents caused by heavy rains and strong winds.
