Mr. Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the opposition, told the government that the government is chasing and hunting down for democratic fighters and those who fought for a democratic country this should stop immediately.
The opposition leader further said that the message sent to the international community by this hunt is extremely regrettable, emphasied that the scandal affects the entire people of this country rather than the President, Ranil Wickremesinghe.
This was stated by the opposition leader following a discussion with a group of citizen activists at the opposition leader’s office in Colombo this afternoon (26).
The opposition leader noted that he will force the government to stop brutally prosecuting struggle leaders and to reach a democratic compromise with all of those groups, as well as to engage in discussions with them, and he urged them not to forget that they fought to bring democracy to the country. The president, who speaks of a liberal regime, has also stated that he will demonstrate it through action.
