Member of Parliament Mayantha Dissanayake said that if President Ranil Wickremesinghe tries to extend his tenure by another year by using the loopholes in the constitution, it is democratically wrong. Sri Lanka Latest News

Mr. Mayantha Dissanayake also said that Samagi Janabalawega believes that the Supreme Court will make a correct decision regarding the fundamental rights petition filed to prevent the holding of the presidential election.

Member of Parliament Mayantha Dissanayake stated this when he attended the press conference held at the Opposition Leader’s office in Colombo today (04).

Mr Mayantha Dissanayake who spoke further said:

A person has filed a fundamental rights petition before the Supreme Court asking for an interim order to prevent the power of the Election Commission from conducting the presidential election until the Supreme Court gives an interpretation regarding the dates of the end of the tenure of President Ranil Wickramasinghe.

However, the United People’s Force believes that the Supreme Court will make the right decision to protect the democracy and the constitution of the country. Also, to protect democracy, the government should prepare the necessary environment to hold the election without any hindrance to the Election Commission. And the people of the country should be democratically given the right to choose the next head of state.

Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the Samagi Janabalawega and the opposition leader, will contest the presidential election this year. Also, the National People’s Force has appointed Anura Dissanayake as their presidential candidate. But will President Ranil Wickremesinghe contest the presidential election? No? No official statement has been issued. Also, Podujana Peramuna has not yet officially announced its presidential candidate.

Former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa gave power for 5 years. If there is a loophole in the constitution regarding these 5 years, if Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe tries to extend his tenure by using that loophole, it is a democratically wrong thing. Also, the current parliament does not have the opinion of the people of the country. Therefore, after a presidential election, the parliament should be dissolved and a general election must be held. “

I have no hope of joining the government

“Also, various people, including my elder brother, are saying that I am ready to leave Samagi Janabaleuga and join the government. All those statements are false. I am currently working as the leader of Samagi Janabalawega Nuwara Eliya District. It is a new political journey for me. Therefore, I do not expect to join the government at this time. Undoubtedly, the United People’s Force will achieve a big victory in the next presidential election and the general election. All the people of the country know by now that Mr Sajith Premadasa will win the presidential election.

Samagi Janabalawega has planned to launch policies and development programs that can take the country forward through a united Janbalawega government. The government is not giving relief to the people as a solution to the economic crisis. The government and the president are working to provide various concessions to the people targeting the presidential election. The intelligent people of the country are requested not to be deceived by the government’s political machinations. People are invited to gather around Samagi Janabalewaga, which has a talented team with a policy and a program. “
