A recent forensic audit conducted by the National Audit Office has uncovered extensive corruption and fraudulent activities amounting to crores of rupees related to the issuance of electric vehicle import licenses for national heroes working abroad.

Auditor General W. Mr. PC Wickramaratne presented a special report concerning this investigation to parliamentary leaders. The leaders have expressed their intention to submit the report to the House following the establishment of the new Parliament.

The report meticulously details the corruption, fraud, and irregularities associated with the granting of electric vehicle import licenses to national heroes.

Following the National Audit Office’s initiation of forensic investigations into this matter, the Parliamentary Committee on Ways and Means, chaired by Mr. Patali Champika Ranawaka, recommended the suspension of the gazette notice that allows the extension of electric vehicle license imports for national heroes.

During recent discussions within the Committee on Ways and Means, it was disclosed that 119 electric cars valued at nearly 120 crore rupees were imported through the misuse of the privileges granted to expatriate workers. It was further revealed that one company imported 75 of these vehicles.
