Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa told Parliament that plans are currently underway to close several factories, warning that this will result in significant job losses. He stated that MAS, which had rendered outstanding service during the period when 200 garment factories were established under the leadership of the late President Ranasinghe Premadasa, has now decided to shut down a number of its factories.
He pointed out that those who once came to power promising to open factories are now moving to close them. Premadasa further warned that by repeating what he described as the “76-year curse,” the authorities are pushing the country into a serious national crisis.
