Many sections of the ATA violate fundamental human rights – Bar Association of Sri Lanka

The Sri Lanka Bar Association says that the legal expert committee appointed to review the Anti-Terrorism Bill has observed that fundamental rights are being violated through some of its clauses.

The union has stated this in a statement.

On March 22, the Bar Association of Sri Lanka appointed a special committee consisting of legal experts to study the Act.

Accordingly, it has been revealed that Sections 3, 4, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 28, 30, 31, 36, 82, 83, 84, 85, and 86 of the Bill violate the principles of the Criminal Code. that

Also, the Sri Lanka Bar Association further states that it has been observed that fundamental rights such as freedom of speech, assembly, association, employment and freedom of movement are being violated through those articles.

It has also been stated that a presentation will be made to the Ministry of Justice and all other stakeholders regarding the matters observed by the relevant committee.

Also, the Sri Lanka Bar Association further points out in the letter that legal measures to be taken against this bill will be taken in relevant cases.
