The police discovered the body of a man who had been brutally beaten with sharp weapons in a three-wheeler parked at Ward Place, Colombo. The body was found by the Kurunduwatta police near the National Dental Hospital around 1 a.m. today (23), following a call to the emergency number 119.
Initial investigations revealed that the three-wheeler belonged to a resident of Middeniya. The vehicle had been lent to his brother-in-law for use. Further inquiries identified the victim as 33-year-old Chaminda Kumara from Godakawela, who worked with aluminium-related employment by day and drove a taxi by night. He had been renting a house in Athurugiriya.
Police reported that Kumara sustained two injuries on his chest and neck from sharp weapons. His body was found near the back seat of the three-wheeler, and a side mirror was broken and lying on the road.
The motive behind the murder remains unclear. The police have begun reviewing CCTV footage from the area and conducted an on-site inspection this morning. The body has been transported to Colombo National Hospital for further examination. Several police teams, including those from Kurunduwatta, are actively investigating the case.
