Malwatta Maha Viharaya Denies False Report on Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Alleged Request
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Malwatta Maha Viharaya has officially denied claims made in a circulating news report regarding a supposed request by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the Malwatta Mahanayake Thero.

According to an official statement released by the Deputy Registrar of the Malwatta Maha Viharaya, Venerable Mahawela Rathanapala Thero—on the instructions of the Mahanayake Thero—the report in question is entirely false. The news article, which carried the headline “Tell Anuradha not to arrest Shiranthi… Mahinda requests the Malwatta Na Thero,” has been declared fabricated.

The statement clarifies that no such meeting or telephone conversation, as alleged in the report, has taken place between the former President and the Mahanayake Thero.

Furthermore, the Malwatta Maha Viharaya has warned that legal action will be pursued against individuals and organizations responsible for generating and disseminating such misinformation, which is deemed to incite unnecessary public unrest.
