Major General Satyapriya Liyanage, who commanded the 64th Division in the last humanitarian operation, has now joined  Sajith and SJB! VIDEO & PHOTOS I Sri Lanka Lates News

Retired Major General Satyapriya Liyanage (WWV RWP VSV USP ndc psc), who served as the 54th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, today (23) met opposition leader Sajith Premadasa to express his support for the Samagi Jana Balawega.

He made a huge contribution to ending the three decades of war, before serving as the Chief of Army Staff, served as the Commander of the Army Volunteer Force and as the Commander of the Western Security Forces Headquarters.

Mr. Sajith Premadasa, appointed Mr: Satyapriya Liyanage who joined the Samagi Jana Balawega, as the ‘Head of the Anti-Corruption Policy and Implementation Unit’ and as a consultant in the anti-corruption journey of the opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.

He received his schooling from Thurston College, Colombo and was an outstanding sportsman during his school days. He excelled in rugby, football, and athletics as well as a cadeting and won the school colours for rugby, football and cricket. After his schooling, he joined the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as a cadet officer on March 4, 1984. He received basic training at the Diyatalawa Military College and became a Second Lieutenant in the Armed Forces on November 16, 1985.

In his distinguished career spanning 35 years, he has held command, staff and advisory appointments. He has also served as Commander of 4th Armored Regiment, City Commander of Trincomalee, Commander of 523 Infantry Brigade, Commander of the Armored Brigade and Deputy General Officer of 55 Infantry Division.

During the last humanitarian operation, Major General Satyapriya Liyanage was the commander of the 52nd Infantry Division and the 64th Infantry Division. During his service, he studied many courses like the Junior Officers Course, Senior Command Course in India, Mid-Career Course in Pakistan, Defense Services and Staff Course in Bangladesh, Advanced Course of Armed Officers in the USA and National Defense College Course in India.

Apart from this, he has also completed a Diploma in Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs and a Diploma in Defense Management in India, from Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute. He also completed his master’s degree in philosophy at Madras University in India and obtained a first-class pass.

Major General Satyapriya Liyanage is a recipient of several awards and grants including Veera Vikrama Vibhushan and Rana Vikrama Padakkama for his achievements in the Army. In recognition of his service to the Army, he was awarded the Purna Bhumi Medal, the North East Operation Medal, the Sri Lanka Army 50th Anniversary Medal, the Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service Medal, the Rivirasa Propaganda Service Medal, the 50th Independence Anniversary Commemoration, the Eastern Humanitarian Operations Medal and the Northern Humanitarian Awarded with many medals including operational medals.

A talented sportsman since his school days, he has shown great skills by representing many sports including cricket, rugby and football in the army, so he was able to win the army colours as well.
