The Samagi Jana Balawegaya and the Executive Committee of the Opposition Union have filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Bill on the Security of Online Systems. Sri Lanka Latest News
The decision has been taken by the executive committee of the SJB and the opposition alliance.
The appointment of the commission on the security of online systems in the relevant act within the powers of the president to appoint its members, further induce the executive to act arbitrarily, the powers of the relevant commission to investigate out of court, to punish the fundamental rights of the people etc. The petition indicated that it should be passed subject to a referendum.
The concerned petition was submitted by the General Secretary of Samagi Jana Balavegaya Mr. Ranjith Maddumabandara, Member of the Opposition Executive Committee Prof. G.L. Pieris Mr Rehan Jayawickrama, the former mayor of Weligama Municipal Council along with members of the opposition parties have filed before the Supreme Court.
