Low-Pressure System to Bring Heavy Rain and Foggy Conditions to Sri Lanka: Meteorological Department Warns
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Meteorological Department has reported that the low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal is expected to persist and move westwards towards the northwest within the next 24 hours. This system is likely to approach the north coast of Sri Lanka and subsequently the Tamil Nadu coast.

As a result, showers or thundershowers are anticipated across the Northern, North Central, Eastern, and North Western provinces. The Northern Province, in particular, could experience heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm in some areas.

In other regions, showers or thundershowers are likely during the evening or night.

Morning foggy conditions are predicted in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Uva, Western, and North Western provinces, potentially reducing visibility.

The Meteorological Department has advised the public to exercise caution and take preventive measures against temporary strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.

Stay tuned for further updates and ensure safety precautions are in place to mitigate potential hazards.
