The Department of Meteorology says that the prevailing low atmospheric disturbance is likely to develop into a low-pressure area within the next 36 hours, and as a result, the current rainy conditions across the island are expected to continue over the next few days.
Due to the influence of this system, cloudy skies will prevail in many parts of the country, with showers or thundershowers expected at times.
The department also stated that heavy rainfall of around 100 mm may occur in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa Province, Central, Uva Province, Southern, Northwestern, Northern and North Central provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee District.
The Department of Meteorology has urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize risks caused by temporary strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
