A summons was issued to Litro Gas Company to appear before the court on January 5 to give evidence regarding a complaint filed by a woman resident of Kadawata area demanding an order to recover 500 million rupees for the damage caused by the explosion of a gas tank belonging to Litro Gas Company. This was ordered after considering the complaint filed by Ms S.A. Disna Shirani residing at Dalupitiya Road, Mahara, Kadawata represented by her lawyer Jayamudita Jayasuriya.
She has also pointed out in the said complaint that on or around November 6, 2021, her husband left home for an essential purpose after bringing home a 12.5 kg gas tank belonging to the aforementioned defendant company and handing it over to the plaintiff.
She has indicated that shortly after her husband left the house, due to the explosion of the gas tank, she was seriously burnt and injured and for this reason she had to undergo treatment at the Colombo National Hospital and even undergo an operation.
She has also pointed out that before this accident, she was running a food shop as the family’s source of income and her husband was also engaged in business activities, but due to this accident, his family’s income stopped in the middle and the family faced a severe financial crisis. .
Her complaint also states that her husband submitted complaints to the Peliyagoda Police Station, the Consumer Affairs Authority, the Criminal Investigation Department, the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission and the Public Petitions Council of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
She has also shown that the defendant company has not given any compensation to her family, even though her family’s economy collapsed and she became helpless due to this accident.
In her complaint, her lawyer, Jayamudita Jayasuriya, sent an interlocutory letter to the defendant company on October 20, asking them to pay compensation to her family within 14 days for the loss to her family’s economy, but so far the company has not responded.
She has also pointed out that the increase in pressure in the cylinder due to the high propane content of the gas tank samples distributed by the defendant company during the time of the accident was the primary cause of the accident.
She has further indicated in her complaint that she had to suffer, due to the explosion of the above-mentioned defendant company’s gas tank inside her house. She suffered mental pain throughout the rest of her life from the suffering and pain caused by the fact that she suffered burns in her body, paralysis of body parts, suffering from hearing and eye diseases, and surgery to heal the injuries.
