Let’s celebrate JR tomorrow!

Tomorrow (November 1) marks the 26th anniversary of the death of Sri Lanka’s first executive president, Mr. J. R. Jayawardena. The first Executive President of Sri Lanka.

After the death of a former Prime Minister, Mr. Dudley Senanayake, who took over the leadership of the United National Party in 1973, Mr.J. R. . Jayawardena became the 6th Prime Minister of Sri Lanka in the 1977 general election, receiving a five-sixth mandate.

J.R Jayawardenea became President with full executive powers on February 4, 1998, after altering the existing Constitution of the Republic of Sri Lanka and creating the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. He controlled the country until 1988. Mr. J. R. Jayawardena carried out numerous quick development projects in the country, which benefited the people.
