Namal Karunaratne, National Organizer of the All Ceylon Farmers’ Federation, announced plans to file a court case against four former MPs and ministers implicated in a large-scale financial fraud allegedly linked to a project to import dairy cattle.

According to Karunaratne, the legal action aims to hold accountable those involved in the $11.9 million scheme to import 20,000 dairy cows. He emphasized that measures will be pursued to ensure that the law is properly enforced against those responsible for this significant financial misconduct.

Karunaratne explained that, under the program, an initial batch of 5,000 cows was imported, though of these, only 300 remain alive, with 4,700 reported dead. He highlighted that each cow was acquired at a cost of around 200,000 rupees, with the construction expenses for cow sheds exceeding the price of the cattle themselves.

He further asserted his commitment to securing justice for the farmers affected by this project, which has led to considerable hardship for the country’s agricultural community.
