Last month, the number of online passport applications almost 30 thousand.

Public Security Minister Tiran Alas said that 29,578 people have applied to get passports online in the last month. Sri Lanka Latest News

Out of this, 5294 have submitted applications for one-day service and 24285 for general service.

The program of issuing foreign passports by the regional secretariats through the online system was started on June 15, 2023.

Minister Tiran Alas said that the Immigration and Emigration Department has received 29,579 applications within 30 days since that date.

The minister pointed out that for the registration of the applicant’s name, it is necessary to visit any of the 51 designated regional secretariat offices and said that the relevant payments can be made online or by visiting a branch of the Bank of Ceylon.

Public Security Minister Tiran Alas said that the long queues in front of the Battaramulla Immigration and Emigration Department office have also ended due to this system.
