Kurunegala Municipal Councillor B. W. Premachandra, representing the National People’s Power (NPP) Party, has resigned from his position as a councillor. Sri Lanka Latest News

It is reported that he submitted his resignation letter to Kurunegala Mayor Attorney-at-Law Ananda Sahabandu yesterday (06). This resignation at the municipal council level, in a context where there is a Compass government, has been the subject of intense discussion in the political arena.

Mr. Premachandra has stated that the reason for his resignation is the irregular governance system prevailing in the Kurunegala Municipal Council.

In his letter, he has pointed out that it is futile to continue serving in the council, especially since the existing governance mechanism has failed to minimize fraud, corruption, and waste within the municipal council.

Critics say that this resignation will have an impact on the internal political process of the National People’s Power Party as well as the future activities of the Kurunegala Municipal Council.

It is also expected that the resignation of a member of the Compass Party, which positions itself as a party that raises its voice against corruption, will draw the party’s attention to such allegations.
