Judge Nishantha Peiris of the Kurunegala High Court rejected without hearing the petition filed by Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeeva Witharana requesting to issue a writ to prohibit the Commission of Inquiry appointed by Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karnagoda from finding out whether there have been corruption scandals in the Kurunegala Municipality. (29).
Mr. Peiris of the High Court judge stated that the commission of inquiry presented by the Governor of the North West Province in accordance with the powers assigned to a provincial governor is correct and legal, so the petition will be rejected without giving notice to the respondent parties.
The petition was submitted to the court through President’s counsel, Faizer Mustapha.
