Father Rohan de Silva has called on the government to temporarily remove current Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara from his post in order to ensure that the ongoing investigations into the Easter Sunday bombings are carried out in a fair and independent manner. Sri Lanka Latest News
He made these remarks while attending a special report launch event held in Colombo.
Speaking at the event titled ‘Memory, Pain and Hope: Seeking Justice 7 Years Later’, organized by the Centre for Society and Peace, Father Rohan de Silva stated that the investigations have entered a positive direction seven years after the attacks. However, he further pointed out that since the current Deputy Minister had served as the Eastern Provincial Commander during the controversial Sainthamaruthu incident, it is important for the transparency of the investigations that he be removed from the position until the inquiries are concluded.
