President’s lawyer Mr. Anuja Premaratne mentioned that his client who is suffering from that special condition should be given artificial oxygen in such a case.
Accordingly, President’s lawyer Mr. Anuja Premaratne submitted bail requests on behalf of the former health minister.
“My client is currently suffering from a number of ailments. Especially sir… after he was jailed.. his blood pressure has fluctuated. Suffering from a confused condition of the abdominal intestines. He also has kidney disease. And he is suffering from diabetes.”
“Sir, among his ailments, the most peculiar condition he has is sleep apnea. It is a disease. Unbeknownst to him, the amount of oxygen he gets decreases. At that time, he needs to be artificially supplied with oxygen.”
“Sir, at this time, the prison does not have the necessary treatment for your condition.”
The said President’s lawyer presented to the magistrate a diagram showing how a person should sleep in the case of the relevant medical condition and she responded as follows.
“If any suspect has medical conditions, he must submit true medical reports that are acceptable to the court. Photocopies cannot be submitted without them this cannot be accepted. Also, the pictures obtained from the Internet were presented to the court, but they are not admissible evidence. We cannot allow showing films before the court.”
The case related to substandard antibody injections was called in Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court.
6 suspects who are currently on remand were presented to the court by the prison officials, but the former health minister Keheliya Rambukwella was not presented to the court.
The prison officials submitted a medical report and informed the court that the suspected former minister could not be brought before the court due to his medical condition and he could be brought before the court by February 22.
