Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has allowed former Environment Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, who is remanded in custody for drug trafficking, to participate in the opening ceremony of the new session of Parliament tomorrow (7).
The speaker has given this permission following a request made by one of his secretaries to allow Mr Rambukwella to participate in the parliamentary meetings.
Accordingly, Sergeant Kushan Jayaratne informed the Commissioner General of Prisons in writing yesterday to bring Mr Keheliya Rambukwella to Parliament.
Thus, Mr Keheliya Rambuk Wella will be called to all the upcoming meetings of the Parliament.
In the meantime, as Mr Rambukwella has left the ministerial position, parliamentary sources said that a seat in the back row of the ruling party will be prepared for him in the parliamentary chamber.
