Officials from the Kandy Election Office have intervened to halt a banquet planned for a party meeting held on the afternoon of the 25th at the Rajina Hotel in Kandy. The meeting, led by National Organizer and Kandy District Candidate of the Sarvajana Balaya Party, Dilum Amunugama, drew a crowd of approximately 300 attendees.
According to Transparency International, Kandy Election Office officials, supported by Kandy Police, inspected the venue and discovered preparations underway for a tea service with snacks. The hotel management subsequently removed the refreshments after officials highlighted that serving food and beverages during political gatherings is prohibited once an election has been declared.
