A meeting took place yesterday (09) between the General Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Comrade Tilvin Silva, and the Governor of Zhejiang Province in China, Comrade Liu Jie. The discussion was held at the Main People’s Assembly Hall of the province.

Comrade Tilvin Silva, accompanied by a delegation, is currently visiting China at the invitation of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The meeting focused on the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and China, as well as the close ties between the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and the Communist Party of China. Both parties also discussed potential future contributions from China, particularly Zhejiang Province, to support and strengthen Sri Lanka’s economic development.

During the meeting, Comrade Tilvin Silva emphasized that the National People’s Power government—established under the leadership of the JVP after ending the previous corrupt regime—is advancing with a clear and rapid plan for the country’s economic growth. He also expressed hopes of receiving support from both the Chinese government and Zhejiang Province, and highlighted the importance of learning from the CPC’s developmental experience.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Eranga Gunasekara, Deputy Minister of National Integration Munir Mulaffar, Jaffna District Parliamentarian A.M. Jegadeswaran, Matale District Parliamentarian Deepthi Wasalage, Gampaha District Parliamentarian Dharmapriya Wijesinghe, and several other delegates.

On the Chinese side, representatives from the Communist Party of China in Zhejiang Province were present, including Deputy Governor Lu Shen and Peng Xiubing, Director General for the South Asia Region of the International Department of the Communist Party of China.
