We strongly condemn the military intervention carried out by the United States against Venezuela, a free and sovereign nation, by forcibly intruding into the country and abducting the democratically elected President, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife.
As with any free and sovereign state in the world, the supreme authority to determine the future of Venezuela and to decide who governs the country lies solely with the people of Venezuela. No external power has any right to violate that authority.
It is a universally accepted principle that modern society and systems of governance must be more civilized. Democracy, human rights, and the freedom and sovereignty of states are principles recognized by the entire world. Violating these principles under any pretext by carrying out military interventions or invasions against countries cannot be justified in the modern civilized world.
Under such circumstances, we firmly believe that the coercive military intervention carried out by the United States against Venezuela will not be approved by the international community.
Therefore, we, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, who condemn this military aggression carried out by the United States against Venezuela, stand in support of the sovereignty and independence of Venezuela.
