“One of the fundamental rights of the people is the right to vote. The government is trampling on that right in a very shameless manner. We know that the local government election, which was scheduled to be held on March 9th, where nominations were being called and ballot papers were being printed, has been postponed due to various reasons. This postponement has been done even though a court order has been issued for that. People are continuously struggling on the streets demanding the legal right to vote.
The Ranil Rajapaksa government knows the level of public dislike and public opposition. Therefore, now with this emergency gazette announcement, the government is trying to maintain its henchmen.
