The Wattala Magistrate’s Court today ordered the release on bail of former Minister Johnston Fernando, who had been remanded over allegations of misusing a lorry belonging to Lanka Sathosa.
The order was issued when the case was taken up before Wattala Magistrate Kanchana N. Silva.
The Magistrate directed that Johnston Fernando be released on a cash bail of Rs. 25,000 and four personal sureties of Rs. 500,000 each.
The case has been filed following an investigation conducted by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division into the alleged misuse of a Lanka Sathosa lorry.
In connection with the same incident, legal action has also been instituted against Johnston Fernando’s elder son, Johann Fernando, his younger son, Jerome Fernando, and a former transport manager of the Sathosa institution, among a total of five suspects.
