Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Senior Vice President Hara Shohei has confirmed that Japan’s financial and technical support to Sri Lanka will continue.

This assurance was conveyed during a meeting held today (07) at the Presidential Secretariat between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Hara Shohei. The discussion focused on strengthening bilateral development cooperation and ongoing projects.

Among the topics discussed were the development activities of the Bandaranaike International Airport Terminal in Katunayake, a project supported by Japanese assistance. It was emphasized that all JICA-funded projects in Sri Lanka are being expedited to ensure timely completion.

Mr. Hara Shohei also highlighted Japan’s ongoing commitment to assisting Sri Lanka in its debt restructuring process. He assured that JICA would provide the necessary financial aid in the future to support Sri Lanka’s development initiatives.

The Vice President praised the “Clean Sri Lanka” program, a flagship initiative aimed at environmental sustainability, and pledged financial and technical assistance to further its goals. Additionally, discussions covered the potential for JICA to support the rehabilitation of Sri Lanka’s transport system and urban sanitation infrastructure.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Isomata Akio, First Secretary of the Japanese Embassy Kenji Ohashi, JICA’s Chief Representative in Sri Lanka Tetsuya Yamada, and Senior Representative Yuri Ide, among others.
