Jaffna District Parliamentarian Ramanathan Archuna states that he is carrying a sword for his personal protection as the government has not provided him security despite threats to his life. He further notes that he has informed both the Speaker of Parliament and the Inspector General of Police regarding this matter.
The MP says that he had requested security from the government twice in writing, but has not received any response.
He also mentions that he had requested permission to obtain a pistol for his protection, yet the government has not granted approval for that either.
Following this, he had sought permission to use a spray gun for self-defense, which is typically used as protection against animals, but he states that he did not receive any acknowledgment from the government regarding that request as well.
MP Ramanathan Archuna further adds that due to the lack of protection, he now keeps a sword with him at all times, and it remains in his vehicle for his safety. He emphasizes that both the Speaker and the Inspector General of Police have been informed of this situation.
