The former President of the Sri Lanka Bar Association Mr. Saliya Peiris has praised the Supreme Court’s ruling that President Ranil Wickremesinghe, as the Minister of Finance, is responsible for violating the fundamental rights of the people by not holding the local government elections scheduled to be held last year. Sri Lanka Latest News

Mr. Saliya Peiris added that this is the second time that an incumbent president has committed this kind of violation of fundamental rights.

The Sri Lanka Bar Association had condemned the government’s attempt to disrupt the local government elections that were scheduled to be held from the beginning.

The former President of the Bar Association Mr. Saliya Peiris further emphasized that the decision of the Supreme Court confirmed the correctness of the Bar Association’s position.
