The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Traffic Control and Road Safety, W.P.J. Senadheera, announced that the facility to pay fines for traffic offences through GovPay will be made available islandwide after the 15th.

He made this statement at a press conference held in Colombo yesterday.

Elaborating further, DIG W.P.J. Senadheera stated that the system will be fully implemented across the country before the 15th, enabling drivers to pay traffic fines online via GovPay. He noted that the necessary facilities have already been provided to police officers for this purpose.

The DIG emphasized that there is no need for drivers to rush and clearly stated that motorists do not need to hand over money to police officers. He warned that both giving and accepting bribes constitute criminal offences, adding that the police are acting strictly in accordance with criminal law.

He also assured that, with the introduction of this system, police officers will not be subjected to any allegations or charges in the future.
