Iranian military spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaqari said US ‘commanders and soldiers have fled’ from bases in the region and called on locals to report the whereabouts of US troops
Iran says it is hunting down US soldiers hiding in the Middle East after it “destroyed” US bases.
A spokesman for the Iranian military said US “commanders and soldiers have fled” in the wake of drone and missile attacks on American military bases.
Iranian military spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaqari took to Telegram to deliver the chilling message, stating: “Considering that all American bases in the region have been destroyed, American commanders and soldiers have fled and taken refuge in hideouts outside the bases, and we are searching for them.”
Zolfaqari also called on locals to report the whereabouts of US troops, who he said had fled bases after Iranian strikes. He said: “We call on the people of the region’s countries to report their whereabouts and, for their own security, to demand the expulsion of Americans from the region.”
The US ceasefire plea comes amid soaring fuel prices and rising financial turmoil
Throughout the course of the war Iran has targeted military bases sheltering US armed forces personnel in neighbouring countries across the Middle East, in a move which it today claimed had caused US soldiers stationed there to “flee”.
The post comes as Iran today rejected a 15-point peace proposal from Washington and a request for a month-long ceasefire, according to reports.
Two officials who had been briefed on the diplomacy said yesterday that the Trump administration had sent the ceasefire plea to Iran via diplomats in Pakistan, according to the New York Times. The plan included curbs on Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs as well as putting a stop to enriching uranium and re-opening the Strait of Hormuz. It is not clear what concessions the US offered in return.
Today Iran’s state broadcaster PressTV quoted a “senior political-security official” who is not named, who said that Tehran had rejected the US proposal. The official reportedly said: “Iran will end the war when it decides to do so and when its own conditions are met.”
According to the official, Washington has been pursuing talks through various diplomatic channels, but Tehran sees the proposals as “excessive”.
Meanwhile back in the US Donald Trump is losing the battle with American voters who believe recent military action against Iran has gone too far. While Trump is deploying more warships and troops to the Middle East, about 59 per cent of Americans say military action in Iran has been excessive, the latest survey shows. Meanwhile, 45 per cent are “extremely” or “very” concerned about being able to afford petrol in the next few months.
