The investigation into the attack on journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrama’s residence, which had previously been halted, has reportedly resumed, according to internal sources within the police department.

The house, where Chamuditha resides, is located at Cambridge Court, Wewala, Piliyandala.

On February 14, 2022, an unidentified group of four individuals attacked Chamuditha’s home using stones and excrement. Police reports state that the assailants arrived in a white van, held a pistol to the head of the security officer at the housing complex, forced open the main gate, and carried out the attack.

At the time of the incident, Chamuditha’s controversial program, “Truth with Chamuditha,” had sparked significant debate in the country, with some episodes raising questions about politicians and others she had interviewed.

Recalling the harrowing experience, Chamuditha’s wife, Hiranti, shared with the media, “We were too scared to go downstairs. At first, I thought it was a robbery. I even heard what sounded like a gunshot. When I checked the security camera, I saw three people approaching. Typically, the security team informs us before anyone visits, but this time, the guards were prevented from doing so.”

Two days after the attack, CCTV footage was released, showing the assailants wearing full-face masks. Despite the involvement of nine police teams and around 60 officers assigned to review the footage, the identities of the attackers remain unknown.

In a statement, Chamuditha expressed frustration over the lack of arrests. He confirmed that he had sent formal letters to the relevant authorities, naming individuals he believes were involved in the attack, but no progress has been made in holding anyone accountable.
